Will the Recession Lead to Fewer Municipalities?
Neil Buchanan addresses the issue on the Dorf on Law blog. I’ve heard some similar suggestions made re: not-for-profit corporations, and I’m a little dubious. The unstated assumption of these ‘economics of scale’ styled arguments is that the services provided by these municipalities (or by parts of not-for-profits) are basically fungible, which I don’t really agree with. Mr. Buchanan’s subsequent ideas on the topic are a lot more convincing.
